The Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) credentials are intended for professionals who perform valuations in all specialties for government agencies, banking/leasing institutions, financial and insurance companies, wealth management advisors or individuals. These credentials are also for those professionals who perform valuation report reviews or related management services, as well as for university students in the field of finance and economics.

Education, integrity, credibility and experience all factor into the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) credential. You can rest assured that the ASA credential after the name of an appraiser means they have been held to the highest standard in the profession.

Obtaining the ASA designation is a process consisting of the following steps:

  • fulfilling the education requirements (i.e. completion of 4 core valuation courses, such as the International Valuation Courses in Prague),

  • submitting the membership application and passing the ASA ethics exam,

  • submitting supporting documentation to the ASA.

Business Valuation Courses in Prague is a series of 4 stand-alone professional courses in business valuation that are required for the ASA designation (Accredited Senior Appraiser).

 

Each of the four courses focuses on a different area of business valuation and teaches participants the state-of-the-art approach that is internationally applicable. Compared to BV 101 - 104 courses, this curriculum is more focused on the European issues and data.

Courses are designed for valuation professionals as well as for other financial professionals or university students of economics and finance.

A total of 2 courses will be taught in Prague in spring 2023, followed by 2 courses in spring 2024. Each course can be taken independently, although completion of previous courses is strongly recommended. With respect to the busy schedule of financial professionals, all courses are taught partially online and partially in-person in Prague, Czech Republic, using the advantages of both lecturing formats.

 

These 4 courses are:

  • Principles of Business Valuations (iiBV 101, taught in spring 2023)

  • Income Approach and the International Cost of Capital (iiBV 102, taught in spring 2023)

  • Business Valuation Comprehensive Case Study (iiBV 103, taught in spring 2024)

  • Advanced Topics in Business Valuation (iiBV 104, taught in spring 2024)

The courses are organized by the European Valuation Institute (EVI) in cooperation with ASA Europe and the International Institute of Business Valuers (iiBV).

iiBV 101

Principles of Business Valuations

This course is an introduction to the principles of business valuation. The purpose of this course is to introduce the novice valuation practitioner to an overview of the areas of analysis that are common to a comprehensive business valuation. The two overriding course concepts involve the evaluation of growth and risk. Qualitative risk is considered in company analysis and industry and macroeconomic analysis as well as financial ratio analysis. Quantitative risk is considered in the evaluation of financial risk and leverage. Subject company growth is assessed as part of the forecasting exercises as well as in the selection of market multiples in the market approach to value.

 

Two of the three approaches to valuation are covered in this course: the market approach and the asset approach. The third valuation approach, the income approach to value, is covered separately in iiBV 102.

 

Topics covered in this course include Valuation Practice, Fundamental Valuation Principles, Valuation Standards, Qualitative Environmental Analysis, Quantitative Financial Analysis, Income Approach to Value, Asset Approach to Value, Market Approach to Value, Ethical Standards and Codes of Conduct.

Registration Fee for 1 course: 1 090 EUR (incl. VAT)*

* The registration fee 1 090 EUR (incl. VAT) applies only if a participant registers and pays for both 2 courses iiBV 101 and iiBV 102 together.

If only 1 of the courses is contracted, the registration fee for 1 course is 1 290 EUR (incl. VAT).

Group registration fee applies to all participants if 3 or more participants of a course are employed by the same employer (we require a proof of employment).

Conference Registration Discount 

The participants of at least one valuation course is eligible for a discount of 10% on the registration price of European Valuation Conference. The instructions regarding the discount will be available to participants of the courses after the successful registration.

JOHN BARTON, M.A., MBA, CPA

John is the President of Brandywine Valuation Consultants, LLC and has been performing business valuations since 1987 across a wide spectrum of manufacturing, retail, technology and service industries. John has been qualified as an expert valuation witness in courts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida as well as in U.S. Federal District Court. In addition to litigation support, he has been involved in valuations for the purposes of financial reporting, sale, restructuring, goodwill impairment, and estate planning.

John holds an MBA from LaSalle University as well as an M.A. from Fordham University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

John also has extensive experience in education. He is a former instructor of Finance at Villanova University’s MBA Program and La Salle University’s MBA Program and has also served on the faculty of the ASA, IIBV and RICS. Over the past fifteen years he has taught business valuation courses throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East for the ASA, IIBV, RICS, and the Big 4 accounting firms. He is a past Chairman of the ASA’s Business Valuation Committee and currently serves as the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Business Valuation Committee and a member of the iiBV Education Committee.
